Shock! Shock! Shock!

I am so shocked by the number of young women engaging in unprotected consensual sex with people living with HIV and AIDS thinking i will get PEP. When a person tell you they are HIV positive please do not ignore, lets not become doctors by looking at someone and refuting the fact that they have HIV positive. The sad truth is that many of these young women know that there is a medication that when you take before 72 hour of exposure it limits your chances of getting HIV. So they go for PEP as many times as possible like once every two or three months. It is true PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) is available, not for everyone who exposes themselves knowingly, for those who are raped maybe in an accident and there was too much blood or service providers and young women are forgetting the fact that the more you use any drug it become resistant and it will not help you. How many of us take up to two piritons and we are still awake? Many, why? because of Resistance

Please do not get me wrong, i am not saying that we should not have boyfriends who are HIV positive what am simply saying is, it is important to get all the necessary information about living with someone who is positive in terms of protecting yourself.We are not forbidden into having sex with a person ling with HIV but it is important to use protection. PEP (post exposure prophylaxis) is used to prevent someone from getting HIV and AIDS but not other STI’s. PEP is given to an individual when they have been exposed to the virus for example people who have been raped or involved in an accident and there was exchange of blood even the health care workers. Nowadays many young women have consensual unprotected sex with people living with HIV without.

Facts about PEP

•PEP drugs are the Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs)
•You take them for 28days two times a day
•They have side effects like anemia, dizziness, insomnia, rashes,
•PEP Will work effectively before 72hours
•PEP will not prevent you from getting other STIs like syphilis, gonorrhea, chancroid etc

Note: The more you use PEP the higher the chances that it will not work because your body will have created some resistance.
This trend of women especially young women having unprotected sex with someone who is HIV positive has to stop. You can never tell someone is positive by just looking at them and when they confess they are living positively do not deny. I thought I should share this with you because so many young women are being enrolled in a HIV clinic because of ignorance and assumptions like; he looks healthy he can not have the virus.
