yesterday kenya televison networ (ktn) aired an interesting story with regards to the morning after pills or emergency contraceptive pills. the intake of the pill has gone up such that people are using them as a method of contraceptive as opposed to emergency. interesting enough was that more young women are use the pill.

this goes to show that as young women and girls we fear more being pregnant while overlooking other aspects of having unprotected sex. what about getting sexual transmitted diseases, side effects of the morning after pills on our reproductive system and other risks associated with unprotected sex.

it's a high time the issue about sexuality and teen sex is discussed openly and we need to stop moralizing the issue. statistics show that more and more young people are engaging in unprotected sex. as a parent, sister, friend we have a duty to guide the young women and men of this country. the morning after pills sells more when school children are on holiday. so while me and you can make an informed decison on which family planning method to use, our young sisters are engaging in unprotected sex. and as long as they do not get pregnant, life goes on. we need to ensure the morning after sex is not regretterable by all and that the emergency pill remains as that, AN EMERGENCY
