Burning of 'witches' in KenyaBurning of 'witches' in Kenya

There has been an increase in burning of 'witches' especially in some parts of Kisii. The pictures seen are horror and yet nothing much seem to be happening about this

See the video attached.

Are these people witches or just some family feuds where innocent people get killed?

In some cases it is obvious that the people who murdered the 'witches' had other intentions like in a case reported  in May 2008 "Five of the suspects were found in possession of property and livestock belonging to some of the victims and will be tried for violent robbery, deputy police spokesman Charles Owino said"  (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7425386.stm

In 2009, the continue to be burnt alive news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8119201.stm

Who decides who is guitly?

If they are guitly, should citiznes take the law into their hands or are there laws in Kenya to handles this?

Why do bystanders stand and do nothing about it?

Why has this not dominated the headlines and the parliemanet business?

What can we do about this?

Have you say

Burning of witches

I may sound too radical about this but you will all forgive me , witches and wizards should never at one time in life be sympathised with because they cause people too much pain which is so unreversable, they wreck homes, kill loved ones and even tarnish you into a zombie!!! It is very sad that people would consult such mediums.

Intolerance

Mae, Much as I have my own reservations for anyone that I would think is a witch the danger in Kenya is intolerance. How do you prove someone is a witch in order to burn them? Who proves? if I decide an enemy is a witch because my family member(s) died in mysterious circumstances ( which by the way include natural causes but for some reason we have to explain every death as being un-natural and blame someone for it) does that make the person guilty? Who said mob justice is justified? For one I am against mob justice even for anyone that has committed crimes that are obvious, there is such a thin line between mob justice and malice. On the other hand, the same communities that claim to burn witches are the same ones that believe in them, otherwise they wouldnt be seen as witches. There is a tendency to advocate for mob justice for any persons that we don't tolerate and the examples are many. Rule of law has to be respected and respect for human rights.

Are we all living in the 21st century?

I can't believe that in this day and age, people are still burning "witches." Firstly I can't believe that people still have a fear of witches, and secondly they still resort to actions such as burning those we see as "other."

Whether or not the people carrying out the mob justice believe they are witches, or are incited as a result of family feuds, we should not accept this barbaric behaviour.

This is a terrible crime

This is a terrible crime against women and againt humanity. It is also happening in many other parts of the world. Many atrocities are committed unto woemn in name of culture and tradition. Its about time these institutions are questioned.

Sad. Too sad.
