Domestic violence leaves the children between a rock and a hard place.
Scenario.
The father loves his children and will do anything for them except loving their mother. He pays their school fees, takes them with him for holidays and spend time with them.
On the other hand, the man is a wife beater.
This lady is illiterate, and where she comes from is abject poverty. She believes that her husband is her only source of livelihood.She tells herself that she'll stick to this marriage so that her children can stay with their father and get educated.

The past two years have been somewhat challenging to me with regard to empowerment of girls and women. I have been working in a project that seeks to eradicate violence against the girl child. Often I have found myself having to defend the decision to undertake this project. This is because of the increasingly growing concern on the so called over focusing (if there is any word like that) on girls and marginalizing boys. Of course I don’t see the point in this argument. But the frequency and the intensity in which the debate is growing is very worrying.

One of the residents of this home was a graceful neatly dressed old lady seating quietly by the corner, am told most days they seat quietly by themselves and since they are immobile, can only move when assisted onto their wheel chairs etc…I could not help thinking what this old mama was thinking about as she watched us pass near her to the back garden…was she lonely?? was she feeling abandoned??, was she having good thoughts of past events?, was she looking forward to see her kids and maybe her grandkids?
