The Gender Festival was an event organized by Kenyan Civil society Organizations. It was the first of a kind under the there: "CELEBRATE DIVERSITY AND PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY". The Kenya Gender Festival, 2009 provide a platform for different gender and women rights organizations and coalitions to harness efforts to highlight gender issues in the country especially those that came to the fore in the events following the General Election of Kenya in 2007. This was done through a variety of activities like talks, exhibitions, theatre and the discussions for the day were summarized in artistic form. YWLI organized a Young Women’s Village dubbed ‘Celebrating womanhood’ whereby young women and men discussed issues that affect young women through participatory theater, music and discussions. The festival took place from 3rd to 6^th June 2009 at the Railways club grounds.
