Until all women are free!!!!

Last, week we got into a discussion with a friend of mine. He was of the opinion that the fight for women’s rights has neglected the boys and in fact boys and men are more in need of these interventions. The discussion was interrupted hence we didn’t come to some conclusion but not before I mentioned that I believe women all over the world have so much in common and hence ‘we will never be free until all women are free’.

Today its about me, its about the school I choose to go to, about the fashion statment I hope to make, about the role I want to play in the society as a young woman, about who I want to date....wow I could go on and on but in the long run what matters most is me. I have witnessed many occassions when we sit in the back seat and tell the stories of our friends who have made "bad" decisions, who have been violated or who have chosen the wrong careers. It never affects me until it happens to me.

On April 29th 2009, the Gender 10 (G10) held a press conference to express frustrations Kenyans are experiencing due to the feuding coalition government. The message was strong and very clear: the women of this country, continuing to bear the brunt of poor leadership are tired of the endless political feuds and games between our President and Prime Minister. We want them to do their work including committing to the reform agenda.
